OVER 60 YEARS

OF ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE

Piedmont Bushings and Insulators (PBI) has been the cornerstone in the industry, delivering premium capacitive graded bushings to leading OEMs worldwide. Here's a glimpse into our journey spanning 60 years:

1960s

ITE Circuit Breaker introduces the revolutionary K-line and HK Breakers, alongside the introduction of the Duresca Bushing process to the United States.

1969

Low and medium voltage lines are broken out with ITE Imperial Components, and bushings are manufactured in Philadelphia for various divisions.

1973

Acquisition of the ITE Imperial group by Gould.

1975

Relocation of operations from Philadelphia to Woodruff, SC by Gould.

1979

Gould merges with Brown Boveri, ushering in an era of expanded manufacturing capabilities at the Woodruff, SC facility. Production continues manufacturing a comprehensive range of components such as Bushings, Insulators, Current Transformers, Coils, and Arc Chutes. Moreover, operations broaden to cater to the needs of various electrical apparatus manufacturing companies.

1987

ABB is formed following the merger of Asea with Brown Boveri. As part of this transition, the Woodruff facility is divested to employees, paving the way for the inception of Piedmont Dielectrics Corporation (PDC). PDC continues manufacturing components for K-line and HK breakers for ABB and other entities, while also leveraging its expertise to collaborate with apparatus manufacturers in designing specialized components such as entrance bushings, CTs, and insulators for substation breakers and transformers.

2002

Piedmont Bushings and Insulators, LLC (PBI) emerges as a beacon of innovation, establishing itself as a female-owned enterprise dedicated to crafting superior components and tailored solutions for the medium voltage power distribution sector. PBI introduces the groundbreaking silicone-shedded transformer bushing for medium voltage transformers up to 72kV, setting new benchmarks in the industry. Expanding its footprint, PBI ventures into aftermarket component manufacturing, catering to the demand for legacy parts across substation apparatus manufacturers, while also proudly serving as an OEM supplier to renowned industry players including ABB, Powell, GE, Alstom, SQ D/Schneider, Mitsubishi, Meyers, L-3, among others.

2015

PBI acquires the assets of Optisense and establishes Gridview Optical Solutions, initiating the development of Optical overhead sensing products.
