FAQs

  • Polykeram is an electrical-grade material developed in the late 1970s through the Electric Power Research Institute. It was specifically created to address the drawbacks of porcelain, such as weight, cost, fragility, and long lead times. Polykeram is an electrical grade polymer concrete, formulated with a proprietary UV-resistant polyester resin filled with a high level of finely-graded silica.

  • Absolutely! We welcome urgent requests for expedited parts. Our PBI staff will promptly investigate all requests, considering current material and production availability to accommodate your needs as quickly as possible.

  • Our porcelain insulators are typically in stock, while the rest of our product range is made to order. Lead times vary based on manufacturing processes. Here's a general overview:

    Porcelain insulators: usually in stock

    PolyKeram insulators: 2-4 weeks

Porcelain bus and switchgear insulators: 4 weeks

    Current transformers: 3-4 weeks

    Disconnect bushings: 4-6 weeks

Silicone-rubber shed apparatus bushings: 8-10 weeks

  • Our team boasts a full design engineering staff and top-notch test facility. With over 80 years of collective experience in electrical switchgear, circuit breaker, and transformer components, our seasoned engineers are ready to tackle any design and application inquiry with unmatched proficiency

  • Absolutely! We specialize in refurbishing bushings, including those from GE, ABB, Westinghouse, and other brands, using our advanced Duresca process. In many cases, we can utilize the existing conductor and refurbish the bushings at a cost that is favorable compared to the replacement.

  • Yes, we offer reverse engineering services for old CTs requiring replacement. Once we establish the physical, metering, and relaying requirements, we can duplicate any 600-voltage class CT to meet your specifications.

  • Absolutely! Polykeram was initially developed as a porcelain replacement and is highly suitable for various applications, including outdoor post-type insulators, B-type stand-off insulators, through-wall bus supports, and non-standard specialty insulators.

  • Our silicone-shed CRC bushings are currently available in voltage classes ranging from 15KV to 69KV

  • Certainly! Our preferred replacement apparatus bushing, featuring a silicone rubber shed capacitive-graded core, is highly favored by our utility customers. We're happy to provide quotes for replacements across a wide range of GE and Westinghouse bushings that are no longer available
